  53. 1.3 SUBMITTALS
  54.

  59.         application instructions.

  70. 1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  71.  
  72.     A.  Deliver, store, and protect products under provisions of
  73.         Section 01600.
  74.  
  75.     B.  Deliver products to site in sealed and labeled
  76.         containers.  Labels shall include manufacturer's name,
  77.         type of coating, brand name, lot number, estimated
  78.         coverage, surface preparation requirements, drying time,
  79.         cleanup instructions, color designation, and instructions
  80.         for mixing.

  82.     C.  Store special coatings in covered, ventilated area at
  83.         minimum ambient temperature of 45 degrees F and maximum
  84.         ambient temperature of 90 degrees F.

  86. 1.5 MOCK-UP
  87.  
  88.     A.  Provide mock-up of special coatings under provision of
  89.         Section 01400.

  91.     B.  Provide one mockup of each system specified, not less
  92.         than 8 feet long by 8 feet high, accurately illustrating
  93.         coating thickness, color, and surface sheen.

  102. 1.6 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  103.  
  104.     A.  Do not apply products of this section when temperature is
  105.         below 55 degrees F or above 90 degrees F.  Do not apply
  106.         coatings when humidity is in excess of manufacturer's
  107.         recommended limit.
  108.  
  109.     B.  Maintain specified temperature range not less than 24
  110.         hours before beginning application and not less than 72
  111.         hours after completing application.
  112.  
  113.     C.  Restrict traffic in areas where special coatings are
  114.         being applied and while they are curing.
  115.  
  116. 1.7 EXTRA MATERIALS
  117.  
  118.     A.  Furnish extra materials under provisions of Section
  119.         01700.

  121.     B.  Deliver to Owner 2 gallons of each special coating in
  122.         each color required for Project.

  130. 2.1 MANUFACTURER

  154. PART 3  EXECUTION
  155.  
  156. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  157.  
  158.     A.  Verify that site environmental conditions are appropriate
  159.         and substrates are in proper condition to receive work of
  160.         this section.
  161.  
  162.     B.  Measure moisture content of surfaces using an electronic
  163.         moisture meter.  Do not begin application of coatings
  164.         unless moisture content of surfaces is below the
  165.         following maximum values:
  166.         1.  Gypsum wallboard:  12 percent.
  167.         2.  Plaster:  12 percent.
  168.         3.  Masonry surfaces:  12 percent.
  169.         4.  Wood surfaces:  15 percent.
  170.         5.  Concrete surfaces:  16 percent.
  171.  
  172. 3.2 PREPARATION
  173.  
  174.     A.  Remove or mask electrical plates, hardware, light fixture
  175.         trim, and similar fittings prior to beginning painting
  176.         operations.
  177.  
  178.     B.  Correct defects and clean surfaces affecting work of this
  179.         section.  Remove existing coatings that are flaking or
  180.         otherwise in unacceptable condition to receive paint.
  181.  
  182.     C.  Remove mildew from impervious surfaces by scrubbing with
  183.         solution of trisodium phosphate and bleach.  Rinse with
  184.         clean water and allow substrate to dry.
  185.  
  186.     D.  Masonry Surfaces:  Remove dirt, loose mortar, scale,
  187.         salts, alkalies, and other detrimental substances.
  188.         Remove oils and grease with solution of trisodium
  189.         phosphate;  rinse well and allow to dry.
  190.         1.  Verify masonry joints are struck flush.
  191.  
  192.     E.  Concrete:  Remove dirt and grease, acid etch, and rinse
  193.         with clear water.
  194.  
  195.     F.  Plaster and Drywall:  Fill hairline cracks, small holes,
  196.         and imperfections with patching compound, then smooth
  197.         patches to match adjacent surfaces.
  198.  
  199.     G.  Wood:  Remove dirt and foreign matter. Patch knots, pitch
  200.         pockets, and other surface imperfections with patching
  201.         compound and seal with sealer recommended by special
  202.         coatings manufacturer.
  203.  
  204.     H.  Galvanized Metal Surfaces:  Remove oils and wash with
  205.         solvent.
  206.  
  207. 3.3 APPLICATION
  208.  
  209.     A.  Apply special coatings in accordance with manufacturer's
  210.         printed instructions.  Do not apply coatings to surfaces
  211.         that are not dry.
  212.  
  213.     B.  Apply each coat to uniform thickness and finish, with
  214.         each coat slightly darker than preceding coat.  Allow
  215.         each coat to dry thoroughly before applying next coat.
  216.  
  217. 3.4 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
  218.  
  219.     A.  Keep project premises free of debris related to special
  220.         coatings.  Collect material that may constitute a fire
  221.         hazard, place in closed metal containers, and remove
  222.         daily from site.
  223.  
  224.     B.  Protect work adjacent to special coatings operations from
  225.         spatters and spills.  Immediately remove special coating
  226.         that falls on finished surfaces not scheduled to receive
  227.         it, using materials and techniques that will not damage
  228.         affected surfaces.
  229.  
  230. 3.5 SCHEDULE
  231. NOTE ** Select substrates, finishes and product type
  232.         required for Project; delete others.   If more than
  233.         one finish or coating is required for a particular
  234.         substrate, be sure to identify where each is to be
  235.         used, either in the specification or on the
  236.         drawings.
